Environment week celebration

Changchub Choeling Nunnery celebrated “Environment week” from 29th may till 5th June.The nuns of the monastery scheduled variety of activities to protect environment.

Waste management is one of the major concern now a days.The Himalayan region which is comparatively unpolluted area is under the threat due to growing connectivity.Since the is region has different topographical and climatic condition ,so the type of waste generated is also different from the other part of the country.To decide the approach to find out the solution ,it is important to understand the severity of the problem .Under the supervision of Himalayan Clean up Changchub Choeling Nunnery along with Zangla village conducted a cleanliness drive followed by waste Audit.The cleanliness drive was organised by the nunnery in collaboration with” Snowleopard conservancy India trust.The cleanliness drive and waste audit was done in two slots in the Zangla Monastery Campus and Zangla Village on 29th May and 4th of june.The nuns conducted a survey to see the most common waste found in the Zangla Monastery Campus and Zangla Village .

After cleanliness drive , segregation of the waste was done , out of which biodegradable waste are composted.The left over waste was sorted into reusable item. At the end a session was conducted in which the nuns of the Zangla monastery demonstrated to the villagers to make useful products from waste.An awareness was created in the session by discussing about the ways to reduce and manage garbage.
